What excited you most about moving to Germany?
Hafsah: I was particularly excited by the international experience and the opportunities it could create for both my studies and my future career. I was also keen to discover a new culture, experience different traditions and begin an entirely new chapter. For me, Germany offered both a high-quality education and the opportunity for personal growth.
Why did you choose FOM?
Hafsah: I was looking for a university that combines academic quality with practical relevance. FOM also struck me as being very welcoming towards international students. What appealed to me most was that the support extends beyond the classroom. Events, excursions and networking opportunities help students not only settle into university life, but also gain a better understanding of the German working world and build valuable connections at an early stage.
How did you find the application process?
Hafsah: It was quick and straightforward. I heard back within a week, which gave me confidence early on. Whenever I had questions, the International Office was very supportive. A Zoom meeting helped me understand the next steps and made the entire process feel much clearer. That personal contact was especially reassuring.

What support was particularly helpful before your arrival in Germany?
Hafsah: After receiving my admission, I was sent detailed emails and documents that guided me through each stage of the process. The support with visa-related matters was especially helpful. The university also shared useful information about accommodation, blocked accounts and other practical steps that are very important when preparing to move to Germany. The support started early, and that made the whole process feel far more manageable.
And what happened after you arrived?
Hafsah: The support continued. I had access to helpful materials and information that made it easier to settle in, both as a student and as an international newcomer in Germany. That gave me a sense of security and allowed me to focus on starting my studies rather than worrying about every organisational detail. It showed me that the support stays with you and does not end once you arrive on campus.
When did Germany start to feel like home?
Hafsah: At first, everything felt unfamiliar, so I was both nervous and excited. Over time, that changed. Going out, exploring the city and making friends helped a great deal. Being part of an international student community at FOM made the transition easier and helped me feel more at home. Once I began to establish a daily routine, things started to feel much more familiar.
What would you say to prospective international students who are considering doing their bachelor’s degree in Germany?
Hafsah: Go for it. Before coming here, I had not realised how many opportunities this step could create. Studying in Germany is about far more than attending classes. It is also about personal development, becoming more independent and building an international network. You learn a great deal academically, but also about yourself. For me, it was a step that opened up many new perspectives.
Your best tip in one sentence?
Hafsah: Stay open-minded, start learning German early and make the most of every opportunity.
