Can you walk us through a typical week?
Sujal: My week is a balance of lectures, self-study and planning my next professional steps. Alongside that, I also create Instagram reels about life in Germany for international students. In my free time, I enjoy exploring the city, meeting friends and improving my German.
What I like most is the chance to connect with people from different cultures and backrounds.

How do you like living in your city?
Sujal: I really enjoy living in Essen. The city is well organised, well connected and very student-friendly, which makes everyday life comfortable and convenient. Public transport is reliable, and the welcoming atmosphere made it much easier for me to settle in as an international student.
What makes your student life outside the classroom special?
Sujal: What I like most is the chance to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. We organise regular get-togethers, share food from our home countries and learn from one another. That sense of community and cultural exchange has made my experience especially meaningful.
Have you worked part-time – and how did you find the experience?
Sujal: I will soon be starting a Werkstudent position, and I am very pleased about that next step. FOM’s lecturers supported me throughout the process with practical advice and encouragement, which helped me secure the role. I really appreciate how committed they are to helping students gain professional experience.
How does your work connect with your studies?
Sujal: My role in Internal IT Audit connects closely with my studies in Big Data & Business Analytics. Both require analytical thinking, structured problem-solving and an understanding of data-driven processes. That combination of academic learning and practical experience is especially valuable to me.
What has been the most memorable part of your master’s journey so far?
Sujal: Learning German and building new friendships have been the most memorable parts of my journey so far. Starting German before moving here helped me settle in more quickly, both academically and socially. Those experiences have also strengthened my confidence in a new environment.
What advice would you give to future international students?
Sujal: I would strongly recommend learning German before moving to Germany. Even if your degree is taught in English, the language is very important in everyday life and can also improve your professional opportunities. In my experience, starting early makes a real difference.
