The world is moving towards Industry 4.0. Digital transformation is shaping the future of the industrial world. Industrial engineering, central to manufacturing and industry, needs to fulfil the increasing demands for more flexible, individual and efficient production and processes sustainably.

The rapid development of the industrial world calls for specialised professionals who have comprehensive knowledge and expertise of industrial engineering with in-depth understanding on industrial processes and all related management methods.

The FOM Master’s study programme “Industrial Engineering” is developed to meet the fundamental needs of the ever-changing industrial dynamic under digitalisation. The programme contents are specifically geared to the anchoring management requirements of the industrial sector.

Students of this programme will acquire focused management skills for classic industries, processes and operations in line with forefront international standards. Graduates of this program are capable of handling a wide range of possible applications in the context of modern industry and qualified for demanding management positions in engineering area in national and international companies across all industries.

The Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering will be completed with the academic degree Master of Science (M.Sc.).

Accreditation (Master)

The FOM University of Applied Sciences is accredited by the German Council for Science and Humanities for its special service to education and research and was the first private university in Germany to receive system-accreditation by the FIBAA in 2012. This seal of approval proves that the quality management of the FOM University meets the high standards of the Accreditation Council, the most important body for the quality of studies and education at German universities. In 2018 the FOM University received system-accreditation for further eight years. Thus, all courses of study offered by the FOM are accredited. A Master’s degree from the FOM University enables entry to a subsequent a PhD programme.

International students from all over the world now also have the opportunity to participate in the Industrial Engineering Master’s programme at FOM Hochschule. In this hybrid programme, students will study online in the first semester and on campus in Essen, Germany, in the second and third semesters.

What you need for admission

University degree¹ (Diplom, Magister, Bachelor, Staatsexamen) with 210 ECTS2:

  • relevant university degree¹ e.g. as an industrial engineer (Diplom,  Bachelor)
  • or university degree¹ with at least 60 ECTS in engineering (in which case the bridge course in business administration must be successfully  completed)
  • or a university degree¹ with at least 60 ECTS in economics / business administration (in which case the bridge course in technology must be successfully completed)
  • or a university degree¹ in any subject and 1.5 years of relevant professional experience before, during or after the first degree related to the field of study of the Master's degree (in which case the bridge course in business administration and the bridge course in technology must be successfully completed)

English language proficiency B2 (corresponding to an language level B2 according to GER, e.g. min. 785 points TOEIC or at least 72 points TOEFL IBT)

1) Degree as Magister or Bachelor or with Diplom or Staatsexamen. Degrees from accredited Bachelor's training courses at Berufsakademien are equivalent to Bachelor's degrees from higher education institutions.

2) For prospective students with a first university degree of 180 ECTS, admission can be granted on the condition that the missing 30 ECTS must be completed latest by the time of registration for the Master's thesis.

This can be fulfilled by:

  • completing modules either in engineering and/or in economics/business  administration with totally 30 ECTS. (PO WS17), or
  • crediting “corresponding achievements”, e.g. job-related achievements (e.g. 1.5 years of relevant professional experience) or extracurricular tertiary achievements related to industrial engineering.

Studycosts

  • registration fee 1.580,00 euro

    - Participants who have already completed or are taking a course of study or a recognised continuing education programme at one of the institutes belonging to the BCW Group pay half the enrolment fee. 

  • tuition fee 11.570,00 euro
  • examination fee 350,00 euro

    - The examination fee will be charged again if the student resubmits their thesis.

  • total cost 13.500,00 euro

    including registration fee, tuition fee and examination fee

Students can pay the total amount in one installment (before the start of the programme) or in two installments. The first installment is to be paid before the start of the programme and includes, among others, tuition fess for the first two semesters, enrollment fees and examination fees (1st installment at 8.410 Euro). The second installment includes the tuition fees for the third and fourth semester and must be paid before the start of the 3rd semester (2nd installemt at 5.090 Euro).

  • Proof of sufficient English language skills (at least B2 proficiency level – for details check the admission requirements)
  • Scan of passport

All documents must be in German or English. If your original document is written in another language, you must have your document translated by a certified translator. Please then send a certified copy of the original and the certified translation when applying.

Note: Where can I have my documents certified?

  • issuing institutions, e.g. schools, universities and language schools,
  • the Ministry of Education in your home country
  • the German embassies and consulates,
  • the cultural department of the embassy of the country from which the certificate originates,
  • the authorities and notaries who are authorised to carry out official certification in your home country.

Important: Translators are not allowed to certify documents in the original language.

Step 3: After receiving your conditional letter of admission you need to send the registration form as original and certified copies of the other documents via post. (Please do not send original degree certificates!)
